So I had to open my big mouth and say I thought the Bruins were doing better lately. Barely a weeks gone by and the shits hit the fan. Toivenen has gotten hurt, the team has lost 3 straight (6-2, 6-0, 2-1), Murray is hurt (again), and rumour is the Mike twins are all but fired.
I think Murray is scared to face the fans so he keeps making up "injuries". Raycroft continues to lose, but as bad as he is doing I think the team has given up on him. The team has been having some bad periods and the D is looking mighty confused.
One bright spot has to be my man Timmy Thomas! He got called up a couple days ago and has seen action in two games. Last night he was dynamite, stopping 37 shots against Dallas. Unfortunately he lost the game in shootout 2-1 on a nifty goal by Jokinen.
The rumors of Sullivan and O'Connel getting fired are increasing every passing day. Why do I have the feeling nothing is going to happen, I mean wouldn't they have done something by now? In years past the coach could make the playoffs in 1st place and be fired a week before playoffs. Rumor on the Team 1200 here in Ottawa says that Sullivan was just signed to an extension and ownership wants it kept quiet.
Who knows eh? Do any of you?

1. Yes, my hopes, too, are dashed in a similar fashion. And "the Mike twins" -- I love it.
2. Glen needs to suck it up and learn to live (happily) without Joe by his side. Making up injuries -- Poor Murray is feeling so out of sorts! But I like Glen, seriously -- I'm fine with Frick sticking around without Frack. Or is that Tweedledee without Tweedledum . . . ?
3. Yes! Tim! Yay!
4. Obviously, "some animals are more equal than others." How else do we explain Sullivan still here and Ftorek's departure?! I can only guess that they're trying not to break a record for most coaches in two decades. And yes, Mike #2 did get a contract extension months ago that they chose not to announce until now. But why? To have a back up plan if (when) the season didn't go well so they could show fans their faith in the coach?
I love Glen to, he is a home town boy from my old Province of Nova Scotia. O'Connel is the one who should go but with Sinden around there really is no resolution to the problem. Things could start to get better after he retires if a general manager has free reign. Of course of said manager sucks then nothing is solved.
Ftorek definetly got the raw end of the stick in that deal. I am still a bit mystified by that firing.
Was it announced that Sullivan was officially resigned?? I never read it yet.
I'm trying to recall if I read about Sullivan, too, or only heard it during one of the games. I think I read it in the Boston Herald -- I'm going back to check articles now.
The other day on local TV they called Sinden "the Red Auerbach" of the Bruins, implying that he will never be gone until he wants to. It really would be interesting to hear management meetings and how they rationalize stuff!
Here it is from the Providence paper:
"It has been one of the best kept secrets in the Boston sports scene: Last September, Bruins coach Mike Sullivan was given a contract extension by his employer.
"Sullivan will be the club's coach at least through the 2006-2007 season."
(You might have to log in to read it.)
One of the things mentioned in the article is how he motivates younger players. Maybe they're keeping him on because the team could get increasingly younger?!
Yeah, I envision Sinden dieing at his desk before "retiring".
The way they are going by getting rid of their free agents and superstars they are definetly going young. I just don't tink they have very good depth in Providence and Juniors to have a strong team in the future. The next trade (Raycroft) hopefully will include either a high draft pick or young talent.
I was more excited about the prospects two years ago than I am right now, I guess because some of them are either already up (e.g., Hannu, Patrice) or are gone (e.g., Shaone Morrisonn, Kevin Dallman). I haven't been to any Providence games this year yet though I know the team has done pretty well. But the Bs have already had ten rookies play this year -- that's crazy! I feel like this has been an unofficial rebuilding year!
