Jonathan Girard made it official on Thursday by announcing his retirement. While it is not a shock to anyone, it's still a bit dissapointing to me. He was a young guy with the potential for a great career. With a healthy Girard in the lin-up the Boston blue line would have been far better off this year. Boynton and Girard (IMHO) were Boston's future on the blueline.
Well regardless of the outcome it is nice that his insurance will cover his well being and help his family. It would be a pretty big risk for him to come back and lose the insurance money for a small chance of regaining his former skill. Brian Berard did it a few years ago and succeeded but then again he didn't almost die.
We'll miss you Jonathan.

I'm so sad, too. You could visibly see his progression in his last two years and I was really excited for 2004-05 with him. He will definitely be missed.
